Logo Lockup
The specific, formalized arrangement of a brand symbol, wordmark, and optional tagline into a single cohesive asset.
A logo lockup is the final vector asset composed of individual parts of a logo system—typically the brandmark (symbol) and the wordmark (text)—assembled in a fixed spatial relationship. Designers build multiple lockup variations to ensure the logo performs beautifully across vertical, horizontal, or small-screen media.
Standard Lockup Formats
A complete brand identity design system usually includes at least three lockup variations:
- Horizontal Lockup (Primary): The brandmark sits to the left of the wordmark. Best for website headers and letterheads.
- Vertical / Centered Lockup (Secondary): The brandmark sits centered above the wordmark. Best for signs, bags, and packaging.
- Logotype-Only: The symbol is removed, leaving only the custom typography wordmark.
- Symbol-Only: The symbol stands alone (e.g. as a favicon, social media avatar, or app icon).
